Working on Fire battles blazes accross Mpumalanga

WOF saw an increase of fires in May and the majority teams were dispatched.

The Working on Fire (WOF) Mpumalanga teams have had an early start to the winter fire season.

They have assisted in 37 fire suppression operations since February.

An Inyaka team was the first to be dispatched, assisting the Lowveld Escarpment Fire Protection Association with various fires in February and March.

Other teams followed; Lydenburg’s helped the Mpumalanga Tourism Parks Agency with operations in March.

The Piet Retief team assisted the Mkhondo Fire Protection Association with a fire on Houdkop Road in mid-April.

WOF saw an increase of fires in May and the majority teams were dispatched.

The winter fire season officially began on June 1 and teams in the Highveld and Lowveld have since been kept busy with veld fires.

The teams are also hard at work conducting various integrated fire management services, which include raising awareness regarding safety in their communities with educational workshops and door-to-door campaigns.
