World Water Week: George learner stakes her water claim in Stockholm
The Western Cape learner’s project is a contender for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize where 36 countries are represented.
Unam Halam, a Grade 10 learner from Heatherlands High School in George, pitched the Drop Saver project that she and co-learner Faith Classen had devised, at the 2022 Stockholm World Water Week (SWWW) in Sweden yesterday.
The project is a contender for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize.

The Stockholm Junior Water Prize is a key part of SWWW every year, as an international competition for innovators aged between 15 and 20 from across the world who have developed solutions to major water challenges.
This year, 36 countries are represented at the Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition.
Halam and Classen secured their spots at the SWWW when they won the Department of Water and Sanitation’s science and technology-based South African Youth Water Prize competition in May this year.

Classen could not make it to Stockholm due to personal reasons, but she has left the project in the trusty hands of her close friend and classmate, to carry their and the country’s flags high.
In an interview Halam talks about her time in Sweden so far:
