2 new electric GTX models for Volkswagen

While the new ID.3 GTX Performance is an electric counterpart to the sporty Golf GTI Clubsport, the ID.7 GTX Tourer provides an instantaneous punch in a fraction of a second.

Two new GTX models join Volkswagen’s ID range, one an electric GTI Clubsport counterpart and the other Volkswagen’s most powerful all-wheel-drive estate ever.

The GTX designation denotes sportier and more performance-oriented off-shoots of the existing ID range.

Volkswagen ID.3 GTX

“With its spontaneous and superior power delivery, the new ID.3 GTX Performance is, for me, the electric counterpart to our sporty compact icon, the Golf GTI Clubsport. Of course, an electric drive and a turbocharged petrol engine each have their own unique character. Yet the ID.3 GTX Performance and the Golf GTI Clubsport share the same fascinating lightness when they accelerate,” says Kai Grünitz, member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management responsible for development.

Positioned as the all-electric counterpart to the ICE-powered GTI Clubsport, the new ID.3 GTX debuts as the pinnacle of the ID.3 sub-species and is founded on Volkswagen’s most powerful electric drivetrain. The ID.3 GTX is distinguished by several bespoke design elements, such as a GTX-specific front bumper with a black air intake, daytime running lights, new side sills, a new lower rear apron curtailed by a diffuser, several high-gloss black body elements, and 20-inch Skagen alloy wheels.

The ID.3 GTX’s high-quality sports seats are adorned in fabric and leatherette, accentuated by red accent stitching. Other notable interior elements include the GTX-specific cockpit surface and a sporty multifunction steering wheel. While information regarding the inner workings of the electric powertrain have not been revealed, Volkswagen has confirmed that it will employ DCC adaptive chassis control.

“The ID.7 GTX Tourer paves the way for a new type of sporty mobility by combining the spaciousness of a large estate with the performance of a sports car. What is fascinating here is the instantaneous punch with which the electric motors provide their maximum output and torque in fractions of a second,” says Grünitz.

Volkswagen recently began pre-sales of the new ID.7 Tourer. Now, the more athletic GTX derivative has been unveiled alongside the ID.3 GTX. The hot-blooded all-electric tourer relies on the same dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system employed in the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX models. A distinct bumper with a honeycomb grille separates the GTX model from its stablemates along with GTX-specific light graphics, illuminated badges, and high-gloss black design elements like the side sills and lower rear bumper.

Like the ID.3 GTX, the electric GTX tourer wears 20-inch Skagen alloy wheels. Offering a large cabin, boasting a luggage capacity of up to 1 714l, the ID.7 GTX’s interior is further distinguished by sporty seats with GTX lettering on the headrests, red accent stitching, door panels with red seams and a GTX-specific multifunction steering wheel.
