Despite sharing most of its body panels with the Suzuki Fronx, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor distinguishes itself through numerous subtle cosmetic tweaks. The grille sports a honeycomb pattern and sits above slightly restyled bumpers, while the LED daytime running lights follow suit with a sleek linear design, departing from the Fronx’s trio of cubes. The taillamps also receive a nip and tuck, although they maintain the signature full-width light bar. A set of 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels round out the Taisor’s treatment.

Step inside and you’re greeted with dual-tone brown and black upholstery. A nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity takes centre stage on the facia. Other features include automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, and a wireless charging pad.

The Taisor will be offered with a choice of two petrol powerplants – a naturally aspirated 1.2l, four-cylinder unit or a turbocharged 1l, three-cylinder. The former is offered with either a five-speed manual or an optional automatic transmission, and churns out a respectable 67kW and 113N.m of torque. The punchier turbocharged unit develops 73kW and 148N.m of torque, mated to a five-speed manual or an optional six-speed torque converter automatic.

Measuring 3 995mm long, with a wheelbase of 2 520mm and a height of 1 550mm, the Urban Cruiser Taisor is expected to occupy the entry point of Toyota SA Motors’ crossover line-up, slotting in below the likes of the Urban Cruiser and Corolla Cross. Although Toyota’s local arm hasn’t confirmed a local ETA, it’s likely we’ll see the Taisor on our market before the end of the year.
