South African racing talent Andrew Rackstraw shines in England

Andrew Rackstraw, the 2021 Investchem South African Formula 1600 champion, made a remarkable debut on the international racing scene with a thrilling victory at the 2024 Jim Walsh Trophy United Formula Ford races.

South African Andrew Rackstraw marked his entry into the global motorsport arena with a spectacular come-from-behind triumph at the 2024 Jim Walsh Trophy United Formula Ford races on April 13, showcasing his undeniable talent and determination on the iconic Silverstone circuit in England.

In a thrilling display of skill and tenacity, Rackstraw emerged victorious in a hard-fought battle, surging from the back of the field in a fiercely contested second heat to outshine local rivals Alex Ames and Jason Pribyl for the win. Reflecting on his performance, the delighted Capetonian racer expressed his joy, despite encountering challenges earlier in the day. “Today was so much fun!” Rackstraw exclaimed. “Unfortunately, another racer took us out while we were fighting for first in the opening heat, but that didn’t dampen the excitement of a fantastic day.”

While Rackstraw’s primary focus lies on competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB series, where he will kick off his campaign at Donington Park on the weekend of April 27 and 28, his participation in Formula Ford serves as valuable preparation for the prestigious Walter Hayes Trophy later in the year. Recounting his ambitions, Rackstraw revealed: “I was on the podium last year, so the aim is to climb to the top step in 2024!”

Having transitioned from karting to GTC South African Touring Cars in 2022 following his Investchem Formula 1600 title triumph, Rackstraw’s journey to England underscores his relentless pursuit of excellence in motorsport. With notable successes aboard his Investchem RDSA LTR Volkswagen Golf GTC, including two wins and an overall championship victory in the season finale, Rackstraw’s relocation to England underscores his unwavering commitment to achieving his goals in the 2024 season.

As Rackstraw gears up for the challenges ahead, his focus remains steadfast on making a mark in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB series while striving to elevate South Africa’s racing prestige on the global stage.
