Rotax title race wide open after thrilling Max National races

The recent Max National races at Zwartkops Raceway showcased electrifying competition across all seven classes, setting the stage for a fiercely contested Rotax title race.

The results at the Zwartkops Raceway Max National race meeting on Saturday May 3 significantly differed from the Cape Town season opener. The championship battles are wide open, offering South Africa’s top karting talents a chance to vie for national championship glory and secure spots on the national team for the prestigious Rotax Max World Finals in Italy.

Local hero Jamie Smith emerged victorious in the premier Rotax DD2 gearbox class, outperforming rivals like Jason Coetzee and Bradley Liebenberg. Meanwhile, Rotax Max King Cristiano Morgado dominated the track, securing a hat-trick of wins and asserting his karting prowess.

The Senior Max category witnessed Muhammad Wally’s triumphant return to form, while Kegan Martin impressed in the Junior Max class with two heat wins. Rafael de Sousa showcased resilience in the Mini Max category, securing a well-deserved victory.

Matthew Shuttleworth utilised his home advantage to clinch victory in the Micro Max class, while Radhi Harris continued his winning streak in the Bambino category.

As the action-packed season unfolds, Cape karters gear up for the third WP regional championship round at Killarney, while Jozi racers prepare for the next GP round in Vereeniging. KwaZulu-Natal enthusiasts will soon be back in action at iDube, with the national championship set to resume midwinter for an exhilarating finale at Formula K in Benoni.
