Designed by Kia Design Centre America in California, these vehicles combine capability, adaptability, and a focus on sustainable travel. Dubbed the EV9 ADVNTR Concept SUV and the PV5 WKNDR Concept EV Van, these custom models hint at a future where adventure vehicles are eco-friendly, versatile, and suited for nature-bound journeys.

Sema, known for its diverse lineup of concept cars and high-performance accessories, allows automakers to exhibit their latest innovations for car enthusiasts. This year, Kia’s electric contributions stand out with designs that blend functionality and form for off-the-grid exploration.

The EV9 ADVNTR Concept reflects Kia’s vision of an electric SUV built for the rugged outdoors. This all-electric, three-row SUV is designed for serious off-road adventures, featuring reinforced front and rear fascias and durable rocker panels for enhanced resilience.

A three-inch lift provides extra clearance, while rugged wheels and tyres improve capability on challenging terrain. To complement its adventure-ready build, the EV9 ADVNTR Concept includes a custom roof rack, allowing for various attachments, from luggage containers to roof-mounted tents. In essence, this EV is crafted to handle the wild, making Kia’s approach to off-road travel a reality.

While the EV9 ADVNTR Concept emphasises off-road performance, the PV5 WKNDR Concept focuses on flexibility and outdoor utility. Inspired by Kia’s Purpose Beyond Vehicles (PBV) range, the PV5 WKNDR is built as a highly adaptable lifestyle van. With a lifted body and off-road tyres, it’s suited for rugged paths and highways alike, embodying Kia’s commitment to vehicles that adapt seamlessly to different lifestyles.

The PV5’s ‘Gear Head’ storage system provides a sheltered space for equipment outside the vehicle when stationary, maximising interior room. Additionally, a pantry mode supports outdoor cooking, appealing to nature lovers and campers. Solar panels add autonomy, while hydro turbine wheels recharge the battery on the go. An onboard compressor offers extra convenience, adjusting tyre pressure or inflating air mattresses for outdoor stays.

Steven Center, Kia America’s COO and EVP, captures the brand’s direction with these concepts: “Kia’s utility vehicles are known for their versatility and adaptability. With these concepts, we’re expanding on that legacy to create something even more capable.”
