As CAR Magazine previously reported, the J5 is positioned as a compact crossover that slots in beneath the J7 in Jaecoo’s growing SUV range. It’s designed to offer a more accessible entry point into the brand’s premium lineup while still delivering on the brand’s proclaimed refinement, safety, and technology. As a reminder, the J5 will launch with a 1.5-litre petrol engine delivering 115kW and 230Nm, paired with a CVT driving the front wheels. Plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions are also in the pipeline, reflecting Jaecoo’s strategy to expand its powertrain options.

Inside, you can expect premium features like wireless charging, voice control, ventilated seats, leather upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof. The model will also inherit advanced safety systems, including adaptive cruise control and blind-spot detection, drawing from the J7 SHS’s Euro NCAP credentials. Measuring 4 380mm in length, the J5 is tailored for urban use but retains practical elements like underbody protection and towing ability.
Local specifications and pricing will be confirmed closer to launch, but Jaecoo’s newest compact SUV looks set to bolster its footprint in the competitive crossover segment when it arrives in South Africa in Q3 2025.
