Toyota Urban Cruiser handed ‘major’ spec upgrades
Buyers can expect a refreshed cabin, new tech features and styling tweaks as Toyota sharpens its Urban Cruiser range.
Toyota South Africa has announced it has handed the local Urban Cruiser range a selection of upgrades to keep the lineup up to date in the ever-competitive crossover/SUV segment. Here’s what’s new and how much the updated models cost.
Upgrades made across the lineup include the fitment of a larger, 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system (up from seven inches), leather trim for the steering wheel, dual rear USB Type-C ports, and a rear windscreen wiper. In addition to these revisions, XS models ditch the previously fitted steel wheels for alloy wheels and gain a luggage shelf with strings. Top-spec, XR derivatives’ halogen headlamps have been upgraded to LED units, which feature automatic light control and follow me home function.

The upgraded Toyota Urban Cruiser lineup is priced from R342 700 for the entry-level, XS model to R373 800 for the range-topping, XR derivative equipped with an automatic transmission. Pricing includes a four-year/60 000km service plan and a three-year/100 000km warranty.

As a reminder, the Urban Cruiser employs a 1.5l, four-cylinder petrol engine, available with the option of either a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic transmission. The naturally aspirated unit delivers 77kW and 138N.m of torque to the road through the front wheels. The automaker claims an average fuel consumption of 6.1l/100km for both the manual and automatic models.
