Ford SA issues new safety recalls for Ranger, EcoSport, Everest and Mustang
Ford owners are urged to check their vehicles as fresh recalls target gearbox faults, software glitches and rear-camera failures in some models.
Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has commenced with several recalls for select Ranger, EcoSport, Everest, Mustang and Transit Custom models.
In July, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) issued safety recalls for certain Ranger, EcoSport, Everest and Puma models. Now, the local arm of the Blue Oval brand has announced it has commenced with several new recall notices for select models. This is what you need to know.
Transmission Main Control Valve Body Replacement
- Models affected: Ford Ranger (2025)
- Number of units affected in South Africa: 8
- Reason for recall: Transmission main valve body’s dimensions do not meet engineering print specifications
FMCSA has identified that the dimensions of the transmission main valve body in certain 2025 Ford Ranger models do not meet engineering print specifications, which may result in the driver experiencing no reverse motion when the vehicle is in reverse gear. The firm has also noted that the vehicle may move forward when the gear selector is in the latter position or in neutral. When this occurs, the malfunction indicator and wrench lights will illuminate on the instrument binnacle.
FMCSA says it is working to provide parts in order to repair the units. When parts are available, the company or a Ford authorised dealer will notify customers to schedule a service appointment for repairs to be completed free of charge. The parts are anticipated to be available by October 2025.

Reason for recall
Repeated short ignition cycles (time between key on and key off) may result in an error in the SYNC system over time, which could result in system instability and/or a failure to maintain certain settings between ignition cycles. This may also result in an intermittent blank image while in reverse or a rear-view image remaining on display after reverse driving has ended. Said the automaker: “A frozen rear-view camera display image while in reverse may create a false representation of where the vehicle is relative to its surroundings, increasing the risk of an accident.”
FMCSA is working to provide a software update to sort out this concern. When the software update becomes available, FMCSA or a Ford authorised dealer will notify customers to schedule a service appointment for the software update to be completed free of charge. The software update is anticipated to be available in the third quarter of 2025.

Reason for recall
FMCSA says it has identified that in some of the affected vehicles listed above the infotainment screen may freeze, followed by a black screen and system reboot. When this occurs when reversing the vehicle, the rear-view camera may be ‘frozen’, missing or delayed.
The carmaker says it is working to provide software for this repair. Customers will be notified by FMCSA via email to schedule a service appointment with their dealer for the updates, which is anticipated to be available in the third quarter of 2025, to be made free of charge.
