Volkswagen confirms SA specs for 222kW Amarok
The new Amarok package blends premium comfort with serious performance, offering advanced tech, luxury touches, and a powerful 2.3l turbocharged petrol engine.
Volkswagen Group Africa has announced the standard specs that will be included with the soon-to-arrive 222kW Amarok package.
In July, CAR Mag broke the news that the 222kW Volkswagen Amarok had been confirmed for South Africa. Now, following showcasing this model – alongside several other new Volkswagen products – including the Golf Mk8.5 GTI, Tayron and new Transporter – at the 2025 SA Festival of Motoring, the local arm of the German marque has announced the features that will be included with this package.
222kW Volkswagen Amarok SA specs
Based on PanAmericana spec, the 222kW Amarok will feature such items as 12-inch touchscreen infotainment, replete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring, digital instrumentation, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a 360-degree surround-view camera array, 10-way electric adjustment for the driver and front passenger seats, and several advanced driver assistance systems. The latter includes adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring.
The package further includes LED matrix headlamps. A styling bar and power roller shutter for the load bay are also present. The 222kW Amarok rolls on 18-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in all-terrain tyres.
As a reminder, the 222kW version of VW’s Ford Ranger-based bakkie, which in Aventura V6 diesel guise is one of the most expensive bakkies in SA, employs a 2.3l turbocharged petrol engine. In addition to the 222kW, the four-cylinder unit delivers 452N.m of torque, available from 1 750r/min, to all four corners via a 10-speed automatic transmission. VW claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 180km/h.
