Toyota Land Cruiser Prado GR-Sport currently not on the cards
Toyota has told an Australian motoring publication that the popular Land Cruiser Prado is unlikely to receive the GR-Sport treatment.
Toyota is not currently considering a GR-Sport derivative of its current-generation Land Cruiser Prado, the Japanese automaker’s Australian arm told CarExpert.
Several existing models including the Land Cruiser 300, Fortuner, the outgoing Hilux, and Corolla Cross are currently offered in some form of GR-Sport trim. The new, sixth-generation RAV4 lineup, which is penned in to launch the first half of 2026, will also have a Gazoo fettled model. The obvious outlier, then, is the modern Land Cruiser Prado, which recently received a brand-new flagship variant – 2.8GD VX-L – in South Africa.
The GR-Sport sub-brand was launched in 2017, aimed at introducing specific upgrades, including suspension, and GR-Sport-specific elements to respective Toyota products. Of course, sitting atop the GR-Sport portfolio is the brand’s performance-focused GR (Gazoo Racing) portfolio, which includes the GR Yaris, GR Corolla, GR Supra, and GR86. Unveiled in December 2025, the GR GT, which has been confirmed for SA, will spearhead the GR range.
