Robbers cause car accident following high-speed chase

Police intercepted the robbery after a lookout alert was sent out.

Three robbers were involved in a car accident in De Villebois Mareuil Drive in Pretoria East on Monday morning.

The men were fleeing from police after they robbed a jewellery store at the Woodlands Boulevard shopping complex, the Rekord East reports.

Garsfontein police intercepted the robbery after a lookout alert was sent out.

A car chase and shootout ensued and the men were involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle on the corner of De Villebois and Hesketh drives.

Garsfontein police spokesperson Captain Ilse Jones said one of the robbers was shot in the ankle and all three men were arrested.

Woodlands Boulevard general manager Malize Jacobs said the security personnel in conjunction with the SAPS responded to an armed robbery at Hyprop’s Woodlands Mall.

“Approximately five men robbed the Deonne le Roux jewellery store in the mall. The scene has been secured and no persons were injured during the robbery,” she said.

Jacobs said police were on the scene and investigating the incident.

The centre is currently operating as normal.
