Lenasia South school teacher guilty of sexual misconduct

It is understood the alleged misconduct came to light after an image of the pair kissing was circulated by pupils.

A week-long investigation into alleged sexual misconduct has found the teacher of a Lenasia South school in Johannesburg guilty.

The investigation came after news of the sexual relationship the teacher had with a 15-year-old pupil reached the department’s district office, Rising Sun Lenasia reported.

The Gauteng education department said it was preparing charge sheets that would be served to the educator in the next few days.

Neither the school nor the implicated teacher can be named in order to protect the identity of the teenager.

Reports allege the teenager’s mother knew about the relationship and did nothing about it, as the teacher bought the family groceries.

It is understood the alleged misconduct came to light after an image of the pair kissing was circulated by pupils.

The education department said it views the matter in a very serious light and is taking urgent action.

This comes after Gauteng MEC of education Panyaza Lesufi on Thursday warned teachers against having romantic relationships with learners.
