KZN lions recaptured after escaping

A low-flying helicopter was used to aid the recapture process, and all eight lions were safely returned to the park.

Eight lions from Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park (HiP) were successfully recaptured in the early hours of yesterday after having escaped on Tuesday afternoon, Zululand Observer reports.

KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife immediately began tracking the lions after it was discovered that three lionesses and five cubs had escaped from HiP.

By sunset on Tuesday the escaped lions had not been recaptured and the search continued on Wednesday when Ezemvelo received reports that the lions had been sighted near Hlabisa.

Field rangers, however, began the process of recapturing them.
