Favourable Fed Cup draw

South Africa are not reading too much into the favourable draw they received yesterday, according to national Fed Cup captain Earl Grainger.

The seeded SA women, ranked 52nd in the international team tennis competition, were drawn in Pool B against Georgia, who are one place above them, as well as Egypt and Bosnia and Herzegovina, who are both rated below them, for the Euro-Africa grup II tournament starting in Lithuania today.

In Pool A, top seeds Montenegro will face Finland, Lithuania and Liechtenstein.

“In this type of competition there is no good draw,” Grainger admitted.

“Each draw is tough, as you have a gruelling three days of round-robin competition where every rubber played in each tie is important.”

After the round robin phases, the top two teams in the play-offs will be promoted to Group I next season.
