Stats SA reopens job applications for census 2021
Many young people across the country stand to benefit from the recruitment for next year’s census, if they apply within five days.

A recent media release has reopened registration for contract employment to work on next year’s census.
Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said the job applications were reopened due to the lack of applications during its first employment drive in July.
Prospective recruits only have five days to register. At the time of the media release, applicants only had nine days to register.
Young people, in particular, are urged to apply, “in order to learn and gain valuable experience in the date environment”.
Prospective employees must be proficient in any of the country’s 11 official languages, be a South African citizen with no criminal record, and be willing to work over weekends and outside normal office hours, the statement read.
Field workers are required in the following provinces and cities:
- Eastern Cape – Buffalo City (Eluxolweni, Mdantsane, Sandisiwe, East London, Cuba A, Cuba B)
- Free State – Bloemfontein (Mangaung)
- Gauteng – Ekurhuleni (Edenvale, Tembisa, Germiston, Kempton Park)
- KwaZulu-Natal – Imbali, Pietermaritzburg, Phayipini (The Msunduzi)
- Limpopo – Polokwane (GaThoka, Mankweng, Tweefontein)
- Mpumalanga – Emalahleni (KwaGuqa)
- Northern Cape – Kimberley (Sol Plaatjie)
- North West – Rustenburg (Wildebeesfontein, Freedom Park)
- Western Cape – Goodwood, Athlone, Langa, Cape Town
Applications can be made by registering on the Stats SA website by September 15. A proof of residence is required when applying.
Stats SA appealed to households to welcome and comply with field workers in the largest statistical survey undertaken by the country.
