Armed gang robs Durban North cellphone shop

The gang smashed in the front display windows and stole various phones from the display stands.

A gang of five armed men robbed a cellphone store on Adelaide Tambo (Kensington Drive) in Durban in the early hours of this morning, Northglen News reports.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the incident unfolded just after 1am at the shopping centre

“It’s believed the armed suspects assaulted a security officer who was patrolling in the shopping centre. They assaulted him before breaking in.

“The suspects broke into the shop on the ground floor by smashing the main display window. They stole a number of cellphones and fled to an awaiting vehicle with a sixth suspect acting as the getaway driver,” he said.

It is believed the suspects were in and out of the shop in less than a minute.

Last year, one of the men involved in the robbery of a popular restaurant at the same centre was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.
