Several lives lost on the roads over long weekend
Before the long weekend, transport minister appealed to drivers to be cautious on the roads.

It was a bloody weekend on South African roads, with several deaths reported, including those of entertainers Akhumzi Jezile, Siyasanga Kobese and Thobani Mselani.
The three stars were killed in a head-on collision in Queenstown , Eastern Cape, on Saturday morning while on their way to a funeral.
Two other people, whose identities were withheld, were also killed in the accident.
Other deaths on the road this past long weekend included those of four people who were killed in a head-on collision.
The two cars involved caught alight near Bronkhorstspruit in Gauteng on Saturday afternoon. The sole survivor of the accident was a woman who was found lying outside one of the cars. She was provided with advanced life support before being transported to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.
Two other people were killed when their car crashed into a concrete traffic circle in Umhlanga Rocks, north of Durban, on Saturday night. The car reportedly impacted the concrete traffic circle, then caught alight.
Two occupants were declared dead on the scene after the Ethekwini Fire and Rescue Services extinguished the flames. Another three people were injured when a minibus taxi crashed into a tree in Killarney Gardens in Cape Town yesterday morning.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said that while one of the passengers had minor injuries, the other two sustained serious injuries. All were transported to hospital for treatment.
One person died when a car hit a tree in Bryanston, Johannesburg, early yesterday and burst into flames. The driver is reported to have lost control of the vehicle, which hit the tree and burst into flames.
Before the start of the long weekend, Transport Minister Blade Nzimande appealed to all motorists to be “circumspect” on the roads. “I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones on our roads and I wish all those who are recuperating in hospitals and home a speedy recovery,” he said.
