The country’s sporting and creative industries to help government efforts to get more people vaccinated.

Deputy President David Mabuza is expected to lead the national campaign launch of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture’s vaccination drive at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning.

The “Return to Play – it’s in your hands” campaign will be attended by Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa, Health Minister Joe Phaahla and Gauteng Premier David Makhura, among other government officials.

The event is set to begin at 10am.

In August, government opened vaccinations to citizens between the ages of 18 and 34 earlier than anticipated, with the objective of ramping up the vaccinations towards reaching 70% of population immunity.

So far, more than 13 million people have received their Covid-19 jabs.

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture is hoping the launch of the vaccination campaign will help to galvanise support among the country’s sporting and creative industries to encourage citizens to get vaccinated.
