Daycares, creches to remain closed under level 4

Parents with young children may still need to hang in there a little longer.

As the country navigates its way through level 4 of the lockdown, the government is paying close attention to developments that may affect children’s education.

Minister of social development Lindiwe Zulu recently said in a statement “sector remains closed in the alert level 4 risk-adjusted approach.”

The relevant departments are in consultation to review when it would be safe for creches to reopen. In the meantime, they will remain home with their parents until advised otherwise.

The government continues to prioritize the safety of the children and staff members of creches.

The statement further explains: “We will continue to monitor the implementation of the alert level 4 risk adjusted approach to review this decision in consultation with relevant structures to ensure that whenever a decision is made for this sector to open, it is Covid-19 ready in order to protect the children and the staff working at these facilities.”
