Dyan Buis chasing gold at Tokyo Paralympics

Sprinter Dyan Buis will turn out in defence of his T38 400m title on Tuesday, after coasting into the final on Monday’s sixth day of competition at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
Buis, who won gold at the Rio 2016 showpiece, secured victory in his heat in 51.29 seconds.
Meanwhile, fellow sprinter Mpumelelo Mhlongo finished fifth in the men’s T64 100m final in 11.03, just 0.03 outside his own world record in the T44 class.
Puseletso Mabote settled for seventh position in the T63 100m final in 12.66.

Elsewhere, wheelchair tennis player Kgothatso Montjane crashed out in a shock second-round defeat to China’s Ziying Wang (2-6, 3-6) in the women’s singles tournament.
“As an athlete you can’t win everything and today wasn’t my day,” said Montjane, who reached the Wimbledon final earlier this year.
“But there are a lot of positive things I can take from the match, so I’ll go back to the drawing board and keep working.”
In the archery competition, Shaun Anderson was edged out in his first W1 elimination contest, after drawing 123-123 against Helcio Jaime Gomes of Brazil.
Dressage rider Philippa Johnson-Dwyer finished eighth on her horse ‘Just In Time’ in the Grade 4 individual freestyle event with a score of 71.155.
With distance runner Louzanne Coetzee having secured the T11 silver medal in the 1,500m final in the morning session, the SA team were lying 33rd in the overall table with three medals (two gold and one silver).
