Gideon Sam rides for a cause

Sascoc president Gideon Sam will lead an anti-doping cycling team at the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge, in Johannesburg on Sunday.

The team forms part of the “I Play Fair – Say NO! To Doping” campaign, which highlights the importance of participating in sport without taking performance enhancing drugs and respecting the spirit of sport.

“As part of Sascoc’s commitment to promote sport and fitness, I’ve taken it upon myself to get out the office and show my commitment to an active lifestyle and to the integrity of sport by leading the I Play Fair team,” Sam said in a statement on Monday.

According to the South African Institute of Drug Free Sport (SAIDS), Sam would be joined by SAIDS board members Mzwakhe Qobose and Paralympian Natalie Du Toit.

The same team will join Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula on November 22 in Pretoria where he will be leading a team cycling on behalf of the Unite 4 Mandela Campaign.
