Illegal snack factory busted in Mpumalanga

The factory is apparently selling these snacks to informal traders.

Cats, rats and dogs were apparently found sleeping and lying on top of bags of snacks in an illegal factory that was busted by Govan Mbeki Municipal law enforcers in Evander, Mpumalanga.

Council’s Compliance and Law Enforcement Section found the factory during Operation Kodiko recently, Ridge Times reported.

The illegal factory was shut down immediately and the municipality said the owners did not adhere to health standards and other government regulations.

Bheki Kubheka, head of communication and marketing, said there were also no toilets and beds and a dirty kitchen were close to where these snacks were being manufactured.

“The factory is apparently selling these snacks to informal traders.

“The public is encouraged to refrain from buying food items from illegal factories,” said Mr Kubheka.
