Man, 53, survives ‘impossible accident’ opposite Emperors Palace

A Polo hit Jordan while he was standing on the left side of the truck on the edge of the road.

A Dunnottar man is recovering in ICU after an accident on the R21, which many on social media described as “impossible to have happened”.

Pieter Jordan, 53, was struck by a white VW Polo while attending to a broken down truck opposite Emperors Palace in the early hours of Saturday morning, Kempton Express reported.

The Polo, which failed to stop at the accident scene, hit Jordan while he was standing on the left side of the truck on the edge of the road, next to a steep embankment.

How the Polo managed to get through the narrow gap and still drive away, remains a mystery.

According to Jordan’s wife Madelein, her husband was called out to attend to the broken down vehicle at about 1.30am. The accident happened at 3am in the direction of Boksburg.

While standing next to the truck on the left with the truck door open, the Polo whizzed through the gap, struck Jordan and threw him against the back of his bakkie that was parked in front of the truck.

Madelein says her husband sustained several broken ribs, internal injuries and is lucky to be alive.

The family is currently trying to obtain camera footage of this section of the highway to determine what had happened. They found a Polo’s side mirror on the accident scene.
