Man trapped in trench, rescued after five hours

It is understood that he was busy digging a foundation area when the wall collapsed on him.


A man who was trapped in a trench under the foundation of a home in Kloof, Durban, was rescued after five hours with the help of various emergency services.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said paramedics were alerted at about 2pm about the incident on Thursday, Highway Mail reported.

Emergency services worked tirelessly to rescue the trapped worker.

“The 30-year-old-man was trapped from his shoulders down, under heavy soil. It is understood that he was busy digging a foundation area when the wall collapsed on him,” he said.

Specialised rescue services were also called to assist.

“The fire department, police and rescue services worked tirelessly to free the man. More resources were dispatched to relieve rescuers who were on scene and to provide extra equipment,” he said.

The man was reportedly trapped from the shoulders down.
