Mboweni says Malema was ‘MIA’ when he needed him most
The minister says the EFF leader should have defended him against critics who told him to get his hands dirty.

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni and Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema shared a light moment on social media after the minister complained the EFF leader was ignoring him.
Mboweni complained it had been more than a week since the year started and was yet to receive wishes from the EFF leader on the new year or his work.
“Today is January 9th, 2019. My homeboy Julius Malema has not wished me a prosperous new year! Or a good budget in February! I can’t deal!! These Limpopo Nostra people not real,” he said.
The EFF leader obliged and sent him the well wishes on the new year, but also hinted at what he would like Mboweni to include in his budget speech in February.
“Happy New Year my minister @tito_mboweni, looking forward to a pro-working class budget in February and I hope your old Cde @PresJGZuma is taking good care of you guys in KZN,” said the EFF leader.

The finance minister further complained Malema was not there to support him when South Africans were criticising him on social media for his Kigali tweets. Mboweni was scrutinised on social media for saying Kigali was cleaner than Johannesburg. He posted pictures of the “dirty” Johannesburg streets and said Kigali had better-looking streets, adding that South Africans could learn a thing or two from the Rwandans.
However, he was told he should join the city of Joburg’s cleaning campaign every month in which people met and cleaned the streets of Johannesburg, instead of complaining from his place of comfort.
Now the minister complained to Malema that the leader was nowhere to be found when people were criticisng the minister. He said the EFF leader should have defended him because he had also been to Kigali.
“When I need you most homeboy. Missing in action. Say something about Kigali, Rwanda. You were there for pap.”
The EFF leader responded and said he agreed with the minister on Kigali.
