Mokonyane: I declined nomination to consolidate NDZ support

By Gosebo Mathope

Mokonyane made a poor showing at the polls during the announcement of consolidated branch nominations on Monday afternoon.

She had been in the running to become the purseholder-in-chief of the ruling party, to replace Zweli Mkhize.

It was not terribly good news for the former premier, as it was disclosed only 289 branches in one province thought she had earned her stripes to sort out the financial challenges Luthuli House was facing.

It was reported earlier this week that the situation was so dire that paying employees remained a monthly struggle.

“My name is Nomvula Paula Mokonyane, and I decline the nomination,” the woman known in political circles as ‘Mama Action’ told the conference delegates, with some loudly cheering her on for the decision.

“We will now make sure that indeed Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma become our leader,” she told the media on the sidelines of the conference currently proceeding this afternoon.
