Suspects open fire on police in Durban

The men are believed to be linked to numerous business break-ins.


Five suspects were arrested this morning during a crime prevention operation by Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team, the Durban North police Field Unit and other local security companies, Northglen News reports.

The five men were spotted around 5am in a silver Hyundai i20 in the Umhlanga area. A chase ensued and the suspects reached the Somerset Park area where they opened fire on the police members and one suspect was arrested.

The other four suspects fled in the vehicle and drove on Mount Edgecombe Drive where they crashed the car into one of the gated estates and a further three suspects were arrested. The fifth suspect fled into the estate.

Marshall Security officers then searched the area and managed to apprehend the suspect who was hiding in the bush.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered the silver Hyundai i20 had been hijacked in Mayville recently. A firearm was also recovered at the scene.

According to Marshall Security, the suspects are believed to be linked to numerous business break-ins in the area.
