AfriForum shows its true colours

For those who criticise AfriForum for its allegedly racist political agenda, the Dube family case is a stunning riposte.

Despite the fact that this country has one of the best constitutions in the world, all too often our citizens are denied justice by our legal system.

This is, arguably, the case with the family of Phumzile Dube, the young woman who died after the taxi in which she was travelling was hit by a high-performance Porsche car, driven by President Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane.

An inquest court magistrate found that Zuma junior had a case to answer because there was prima facie evidence of negligence on his part.

But the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) declined to prosecute because, it claimed, there was no chance of a successful prosecution.

Now, AfriForum’s recently hired private prosecutor, Gerrie Nel, has announced he will take up the case on behalf of the Dube family.

For those who criticise AfriForum for its allegedly racist political agenda, this case is a stunning riposte.

The government failed this black family. They failed Dube.

Everybody has to be treated equally before the law, otherwise there is no real justice. And, if it takes “outsourcing” to apply the law, then so be it. If, in the process, the bias of the NPA is revealed, even better …
