ANC and DA retain wards in Eastern Cape and Limpopo by-elections

ANC and DA retained both the wards that they had won in the 2016.


The African National Congress (ANC) and Democratic Alliance (DA) retained both the wards that they had won in the 2016 Municipal Elections during the by-elections contested on Wednesday, in the Eastern Cape and Limpopo.

According to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) the DA retained the ward in Kou-Kamma Municipality in the Eastern Cape with a lesser margin of 55.80% of the votes cast compared to 60.50% in the 2016 Municipal Elections.
Julian Jansen is the new councillor in Ward 2 of Kou-Kamma Municipality. Voter turnout was 59.32% compared to 65.46% in the 2016 Municipal Elections.
Lesibana Petrus Maloba is the new ANC councillor in Ward 16 of Mogalakwena Municipality in the Limpopo province.
The IEC said that the ANC retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, however with a lesser margin of 43.53% of votes cast compared to 44.64% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 31.24% compared to 39.63% in the 2016 Municipal Elections.
