Another Cabinet reshuffle would be disastrous for SA, says Sisulu

By Citizen Reporter

African National Congress presidential hopeful Lindiwe Sisulu says she would be stunned if President Jacob Zuma reshuffled his Cabinet for the third time this year ahead of the governing party’s national conference in December.

Sisulu warned that another Cabinet reshuffle would be “disastrous” for the country and its economy.

“I would be surprised because we are in a very unstable environment,” Sisulu told the The Sunday Times last week, on the sidelines of her campaign stop at the University of Cape Town.

“The stability of the political environment is also absolutely essential for the stability of our economy with rising unemployment. Investors are looking at us, rating agencies are looking at us, and we need to do everything we can do to try and ensure there is stability,” she added.

Sisulu, who is also the minister of human settlements, told the weekly the removal of ministers who had their portfolios for only a few months would have a negative impact on the administration of their departments and the economy.

“I think a reshuffle does create a lot instability. I know exactly what the removal of a minister means for the entire administration, for the work that has been on the table of that minister.

“It takes a new minister a lot of time to get to understand the environment they are operating in and to plan ahead. One more reshuffle would really be disastrous,” she said.
