Cape Town dances to the rhythm of jazz music

In its 18th year, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival took place over the weekend at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The two-day music festival celebrated the significance of diversity and artistry through art, food and jazz music.
This year the festival featured a diverse selection of local and international headlining artists like American RnB group The Internet, Andra Day, Tom Mosh and En Vouge, among others, who delighted fans with hits from their studio albums.
Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron and Rhona Bennett of 90s RnB girl group En Vouge took the crowd on a musical journey through time with their renditions of 90s pop and RnB hits including the award winning hit Don’t Let Go.
Pulling in a slightly younger audience to the festival, California group The Internet entertained many with foot-tapping performances of their most recent music.
With the majority of acts originating from in and around the African continent, the Cape Town International Jazz festival is a true celebration of African talent and a dedication to jazz music.
Cape Town-based and two-time Metro FM Music Award winner Nomfundo Xaluva and female vocalist, multiple award-winner Thandiswa Mazwai, were major hits among attendees.
Performing for a seated audience, Xaluva and Mazwai chose a four piece acoustic band for their set. Xaluva, who has performed on many other huge stages alongside other greats like Sibongile Khumalo, jazzed up the souls of many in the auditorium as she sang songs from her 2015 studio album From Now On.
Performing songs from Belede, a studio album which is a musical tribute to past legends, Mazwai set the festival alight and was the perfect artist to conclude the event’s programme.
