Online applications for 2022 academic year open on Monday in Gauteng
Mabona has reminded parents to ensure that all details entered into the system are accurate.

The Gauteng department of education has announced that phase-two online applications for 2022 will begin on 13 September 2021.
Parents and guardians can log on to www.gdeadmissions.gov.za from 8am. The deadline for applications is Friday, 8 October 2021.
This applies to parents wanting to register children for Grade 1 or Grade 8 in the 2022 academic year but currently not in a public school in Gauteng.
“We are also glad to announce that parents and guardians who were not able to apply on time during phase one for pupils in Grade 7 at public schools in Gauteng will be able to apply under phase two,” said department spokesperson Steve Mabona.

Parents and guardians will need to have the following documentation for a successful application:
- Parent and child ID or passport
- Refugee permit
- Asylum seeker permit
- Permanent residence permit
- Study permit
- South African birth certificate
- Proof of home address
- Proof of work address
- Latest school report
- Clinic/immunisation card (Grade 1 only)
“We urge parents and guardians to upload these documents onto the system or submit them at the school they applied to within seven days of applying,” said Mabona.
Mabona reminded parents to ensure that all details entered into the system are accurate.
“When phase one applications officially closed on Friday, 3 September 2021, we had recorded a total of 351,169 applications. We express our gratitude towards parents and guardians who managed to apply successfully and the patience they displayed throughout the process,” he added.
Departmental teams will be available for assistance during phase-two applications on all its social media platforms, decentralised walk-in centres and call centre on 0800-000-789, Mabona said.
“We have outdone ourselves this year, not just as the department, but as stakeholders, as parents and as guardians in having made the new two-phased approach a success so far. We wish every parent and guardian applying under Phase two the very best, and we assure them that our team will be there to assist them every step of the way,” said Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi.
