PAC expects to win ‘no less than 50 seats’ in the 2019 elections
Despite currently holding only one seat in parliament, the party is counting on exponential growth.

Leader of the Pan Africanist Congress Narius Moloto is trending after declaring that his party expects to win “no less than 50 seats” in the coming election.

Speaking at the Cape Town Press Club earlier this week about the PAC’s unity and its relevance, Moloto made the declaration in response to a question from a journalist who asked him to predict his party’s performance at the polls on May 8.
The PAC got five seats in 1994, three in 1999 and in 2004 and one in 2009 and again in 2014.

According to Times Live, Moloto contextualised his claim by explaining that in terms of the PAC’s constitution, the minimum required membership in the provinces is 100,000.
“When you take this and combine it nationally, it should give us well over one million [votes],” he added, before stating “then there are families of members. We believe that with the efforts of the members of the party and their relatives, we should be able to get there.”
The party has been facing a factional leadership battle that was recently put on ice by the High Court in Pretoria which ordered party leadership to temporarily put their differences aside and decide on someone to lead them through the election.
As such, Moloto’s status as leader of the PAC is tenuous.
It is being contested by the man who occupies the party’s only seat in parliament Luthando Mbinda.
Moloto was expelled from the party in 2014 before going on to be elected its president in 2017.
