16-year-old KZN girl attempts suicide after failing exams

Paramedics found the unresponsive girl lying on a bed with a suicide note and tablets found next to her.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to an urgent call from the mother of a 16-year-old Brindhavan Secondary School learner who tried to take her own life on Thursday morning.

According to RUSA’s Facebook post, the girl learned that she had failed her final examinations, and tried to commit suicide by taking a large number of tablets. She reportedly waited until her parents left for work.

There were also reportedly two minor children at the house where the incident took place, in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal.

Paramedics found the unresponsive girl lying on a bed with a suicide note and tablets found next to her.

She was promptly transported to a local hospital. Her condition at present is not yet known.
