Young man found hanging in Yeoville

Police said the deceased looked as though his belt caught on a spikey fence, and he got strangled by his T-shirt, but an inquest docket has been opened.

A young man was found hanging from a high wall with a sharply spiked fence in Yeoville, reports North Eastern Tribune.

According to the head of communications at Yeoville Police Station Captain Sifso Mabizela, the police attended to the scene on Sunday.

“It appeared that the deceased was trying to gain access to his premises by climbing over the high wall with a spiked fence on top. It seems that his belt and T-shirt got caught on the spikes, leaving him dangling and he supposedly got strangled by the T-shirt.”

Mabizela confirmed that an inquest docket had been opened at the station. “We are also checking if there was no foul play, seeing that the deceased was at a café on Raleigh Street prior to his death. We are also checking the footage from the café to establish whether he left with anyone – this is to check if the deceased wasn’t killed by someone.”

He said they are waiting for the post-mortem report, which will disclose the cause of death. “If we find that there was foul play, the police will change the docket from inquest to murder.

“We are appealing to anyone with information relating to the crime to please contact the police station.”
