Law enforcers flood Zandspruit after land invasion

By Siso Naile

A large contingent of law enforcement officers descended on Zandspruit to deal with land grabs this morning, Tuesday, June 25, Roodepoort Northsider reports.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department ward commander, Superintendent Wandile Mrubata, confirmed that they are busy demolishing illegal structures on invaded land.

The land in question is said to be earmarked for development, but certain dwellers of Zandspruit decided to help themselves to their own pieces of it.

Mrubata warned of possible protest action later on. “They have told us that they will riot as soon as we leave the site,” he said.

Motorists are urged to be cautious when travelling along routes surrounding the informal settlement, especially on Beyers Naudé Drive and Peter Road.
