Woman stabs boyfriend to death following domestic dispute in Boksburg

Police calls on the community not to resort to violence to solve an argument.

A 29-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her 30-year-old boyfriend to death in Ramaphosa on Sunday, January 14, Boksburg Advertiser reports.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela, the couple had an argument over a traditional string tied around their child’s waist.

The father reportedly took a knife and tried to cut the thread on the child’s waist before the event took a dramatic turn.

The woman reportedly grabbed the knife from the father and allegedly stabbed him in the neck.

Police were called to the scene where they found the man inside a shack in Road Reserve lying in a pool of blood.

He was certified dead on the scene and the murder weapon, with blood on it, was found at the scene.

The woman was arrested, and is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court soon.

“We are appealing to members of the community to refrain from any kinds of violent behaviour. People should resolve their disputes amicably.

“Violence doesn’t offer a long-term solution to any dispute; instead, it leads to more problems. In this case, the child has now been left without a father; the mother has been arrested and she might be convicted and sent to jail,” said Phathela.

He reminded citizens to drink responsibly because a number of what he described as “senseless killings” happened in his policing precinct while the people involved were under the influence of alcohol.

Phathela admitted that their policing precinct has seen an increase in the number of killings during this festive season when compared to previous years.

Phathela added that the Ekurhuleni Central SAPS Cluster is continuing with its festive season crime operations, and they have so far arrested more than 118 suspects for various crime ranging from murder to attempted murder, armed robbery, fraud, theft, drugs, shoplifting, reckless and negligent driving, assault, malicious damage to property, drunken driving, possession of dangerous weapon, domestic violence, contravention of protection order, loitering, national road traffic act, drinking in public and being illegal immigrants.
