Malema ‘enemy’ Piet van Zyl also attacks referees

By Charles Cilliers

A video by Piet van Zyl in which he says he plans to pray to God that his bullets fly straight when the war with Julius Malema and his Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) kicks off has gone viral this week.

The man in the video appears to be the same Pieter van Zyl who attacked Irish referee Dave McHugh nearly 15 years ago at Kings Park in Durban, plunging South African sport into disgrace.

At the time, it was reported that Van Zyl got upset about McHugh’s decision to award a penalty try to the All Blacks for a high tackle and then disallowing Breyton Paulse’s try and awarding a penalty kick to the visiting side.

“Everyone gets to a point where they decide: “That’s it, no more,” he reportedly explained at the time. “The next thing I knew, I was on the field.”

Van Zyl rushed at the referee while a scrum was being set up in the second half.

“My blood was boiling,” said Van Zyl, who explained that he “grabbed” the ref to “make a point”.

Van Zyl told Malema on YouTube over the weekend: “Those little guys who put you on a rock when you were talking about us when you were addressing people there in the Free State in khaki clothing … those are Afrikaner boys, you need to be careful of them. Let me give you some good advice.

“They are going to make you kak that you have never eaten in your life.”

The man in the video is clearly the same person: older, greyer, just as overweight … and not necessarily wiser.
