Police investigating attempted murder case against Ramatlhodi

The former minister's lawyer says his client 'vehemently' denies allegations he allegedly tortured and poured boiling water over Joseph Menge.

North West police have confirmed a case of attempted murder has been opened against former Cabinet minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi, after he allegedly poured boiling water over a man.

This after The New Age reported on Tuesday morning Joseph Menge, 43, alleged that on July 23 Ramatlhodi and his security guards tortured and poured boiling water on him following a dispute over rent.

Police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone confirmed to News24 the case was opened in July and police were investigating the matter.

“I will not comment about allegations, except that the victim alleged that he was poured with hot water,” Mokgwabone reportedly said.

Lazarus Mpoyana Ledwaba, Ramatlhodi’s lawyer, also confirmed to the news website that police were investigating the case against the former minister. He said Ramatlhodi “vehemently” denied the allegations and would fully cooperate with police.

“He [Ramatlhodi] has already given his version of the events to the authorities. He will… comment on the matter at an appropriate time,” Ledwaba said.

Earlier this year, Ramatlhodi was fired from his job as public service and administration minister during a Cabinet reshuffle on March 30.
