DA questions senior manager’s appointment in Limpopo municipality

It is alleged the acting manager was involved in the questionable awarding of lucrative tenders amounting to millions of rands.

A Limpopo ANC-led district municipality is at the odds with the Democratic Alliance (DA) following the appointment of a supply chain management (SCM) acting manager.

It is alleged the acting manager was involved in the questionable awarding of lucrative tenders amounting to millions of rands.

The DA has called on for an independent audit of tenders awarded by the official since her appointment, nearly a full year later.

“We believe the appointment of Gloria Sikhosana, on salary level 5 to the position of SCM manager on salary level 3 (a much higher salary bracket) on 15 September 2020, was irregular,” said DA caucus leader in the Sekhukhune district municipality of Limpopo, Solomon Maila.

Maila said yesterday in a statement that Sikhosana was appointed despite the fact that other competent and appointable officials on salary level 4 were available.

A spokesperson for the district municipality, Moloko Moloto, said at the time of Sikhosana’s appointment, the manager for supply chain management was placed on suspension.

According to Moloto, Sikhosana has done sterling work during the time she acted in the position.
