Springs Library opens its doors

The Springs Library opened its doors to the public on Tuesday, reports the Springs Advertiser.

This comes after the closure of the library in November due to a burst pipe in the ground-floor learning section of the library.

Ekurhuleni metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe stated: “Although the initial repairs were not successful and an investigation revealed serious problems with a blockage in the sewage lines, we managed to solve the problems in time to open the library.”

He said all the problems preventing the library from opening were repaired.

“The blocked sewage, the cleaning and refreshing of the carpets, which were affected by the burst pipe, as well as the air-conditioning system, have been fixed,” he said.

An inspection was recently conducted by inspectors from the metro’s occupational health services department, and they found the library was in a fit state to open its door to the public once more.

“We are planning exciting programmes and new developments at the library but will keep residents informed,” said Gadebe.

One of the new developments is the opening of the Knowledge Centre for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training, which will be provided at the library.

Gadebe said they would like to remind the public of the overdrive electronic circulation services currently available at the library, where they can download and read the latest books online.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused during the closure of the library,” said Gadebe.
