Two men hoisted out of reservoir after fall

It is understood that they were standing on scaffolding inside the reservoir when it collapsed.


ER24 reported that two construction workers, aged 30 and 34 years, sustained moderate to serious injuries when they fell approximately 10 metres down a reservoir in Dreizicht, in Orange Farm, Sebokeng south of Johanneburg, Sedibeng Ster reports.

Shortly before 4pm yesterday, 14 February, paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where construction workers indicated that two men were still inside of the empty reservoir.

It is understood that they were standing on scaffolding inside the reservoir when it collapsed. Both men fell with the structure onto the concrete floor.

An ER24 paramedic was harnessed up and hoisted by a crane into the open reservoir. He found the two men lying inside the reservoir. Another paramedic was later hoisted into the reservoir.

Werner Vermaak, spokesperson for ER24, said: “The two men were found with possible spinal injuries, fractures and various other injuries. They were stabilized inside the reservoir and hoisted out to an ER24 ambulance waiting nearby. Both men were transported to Lenmed Hospital for further medical management. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not yet known.”
