WATCH: 47 schoolkids crammed into minibus taxi
The video has astonished SA, but appears to be a routine form of scholar transport in Nelson Mandela Bay.
A taxi driver was arrested on Monday after police in Port Elizabeth stopped his vehicle and patiently counted as many as 47 disembarking passengers.
A Toyota Quantum should hold no more than 16 passengers.
Another taxi driver was reportedly also arrested while carrying 36 school pupils, suggesting that overloading such vehicles so dangerously is little more than a daily occurrence in the Eastern Cape.
Watch the video below:
46 school children in a Quantum!! Looks like a daily thing even. Thank goodness they were caught and saved. Did the parents not know about this or…? @DBE_SA @TheCitizen_News pic.twitter.com/5MeCUFHMIW
