WATCH: ‘Duduzane Gupta’ mistake at Zondo commission lights up social media

Some on social media say the commission's senior counsel may have been using his nickname.

Apart from former ANC MP Vytjie Mentor’s testimony at the Zondo commission this past few days, commission’s senior counsel Mahlape Sello also set tongues wagging on social media following her constant mistake of giving Duduzane Zuma a new Gupta surname during the cross-examination on Monday.

In one of the clips that have been circulating on social media, the evidence leader says: “We requested and obtained records from the department of home affairs, of certain persons including yourself [Vytjie Mentor], Mr Ajay Gupta, Mr Atul Gupta, Mr Rajesh Gupta, Mr Duduzane Gupta.”

Watch the clip below:

Check out some of the comments on social media:

Sello was cross-examining Mentor’s testimony after being presented with Emirates Airlines and home affairs records proving Atul Gupta was in South Africa during the alleged China trip 10 years ago, where she claimed to have seen Gupta.

Mentor was forced to make a retraction.

Mentor said she found inconsistencies between records supplied to the commission by SAA and those obtained from parliament, requesting the commission check on her travel in 2010 based on her Voyager miles account.
