WATCH: Taxi bursts into flames in Pinetown

Paramedics learned the taxi had somehow caught fire and rolled down the hill and into a building.

A taxi burst into flames on Crompton Street near Umdoni Centre in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, early on Friday.

Rescue Care paramedics found the burning taxi against one of the buildings, Highway Mail reported.

“Fortunately, all of the occupants managed to escape before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The fire department arrived shortly afterwards and extinguished the fire. Advanced Life Support Paramedics were on standby in case anyone had sustained injuries while fighting the fire,” said Rescue Care paramedics operations director Garrith Jamieson.

It was thought that the taxi had been involved in a collision.

“However, upon arrival paramedics learned the taxi had somehow caught alight and rolled down the hill and into a building,” said Jamieson.

Metro police had to close Crompton Street between Windsor Lane and Umdoni Road while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
