Tongaat SAPS investigate rape, murder and fraud

Tongaat SAPS are investigating a number of violent crimes and have arrested many people for being in possession of drugs, dangerous weapons and more.

Tongaat SAPS is investigating a case of the murder and rape of a Precious Mlaba (35) who was found dead in a sugar cane field on May 1.

Warrant officer Manisha Mari said her underwear, shoes and bag were found on the ground near the pace where she was found.

A suspect has been arrested.

Police were also alerted to an alleged stabbing at the railway station in Tongaat on May 2 at 7.45pm.

Following a trail of blood on the overhead bridge they found a man lying on his back, in blood-stained clothes at the entrance to the platform.

“The victim, Sanele Mathe (30) had a stab wound to his left thigh and paramedics on scene confirmed that he was dead.”

 

Tongaat police alert people to be careful when sending cash to family via money market.

Two cases of fraud have been opened at Checkers in Tongaat where the recipients of the money did not receive the money sent; R1000 in one case and R500 in the second case.

Warrant officer Mari said people should rather send money through the banking system.

The crime prevention team, headed by Major Viscount Msomi  held extensive operation in hot spot areas in Tongaat on the weekend and arrested a large number people for being in possession of drugs, dangerous weapons, selling liquor without a licence, gambling, being drunk and disorderly and disturbing the peace, and drunk driving.
