Eskom warns of bank scam

The fraudsters use letters, faxes and emails bearing the Eskom logo and the forged signature of Eskom's group chief executive, Brian Molefe

Residents are warned about a scam where fraudsters are pretending to be from Eskom and claim the organisation has changed its banking account to Nedbank, and then provides those banking details.
The fraudsters use letters, faxes and emails bearing the Eskom logo and the forged signature of Eskom’s group chief executive, Brian Molefe. They have also forged Nedbank banking details.
Customers are asked to take note that Eskom does not have a banking account with Nedbank and that it would never send notifications this way.
Eskom’s banking details appear on customers’ electricity bills. If concerned, contact the Customer Call Centre at 08600 37566 for verification.
To report incidents of fraud, corruption and irregularities involving Eskom, people are asked to call the crime line at 0800 11 27 22 or email investigate@eskom.co.za.
