Two injured in KwaDukuza CBD cash-in-transit robbery

The guards were collecting cash at a wholesaler when they were attacked by armed men.

Two people were shot and injured during a cash-in-transit robbery in KwaDukuza CBD today.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, security guards went to collect cash at a wholesaler on Mahatma Gandhi Street.

“While he was approaching the cash-in-transit vehicle with cash, he was attacked by a group of armed suspects who fired shots,” said Mbele.

“A security guard has injured as well as a bystander. The suspects took a box containing cash and fled in their getaway vehicles.”

Two vehicles were later found abandoned at Blythedale beach.

Police said both the vehicles were stolen in Sydenham earlier this year.
